Dave Croad was born and grew up in South Africa, mainly in Johannesburg and in the Kwazulu-Natal midlands, where he developed his love of the beautiful rolling landscapes so characteristic of that area. Although Dave never studied art in any formal institution, his passion has always been drawing and painting. Once only a relaxing hobby, he has developed his talent over the years and is now a full-time professional artist. Although originally exclusively a watercolourist, Dave now works mainly in oils, with occasional use of other mediums depending on the subject and effects required. Dave’s subject matter comprises mainly South African landscapes and seascapes, interspersed with some still life and figure studies. His love of colour and composition shines through in his work, as does his passion for South Africa with all its contrasts and diversity. |
Tony Kelly studied art at the Watford Technical Art College in Hertfordshire, England, where he was tutored in the various disciplines of artistic execution. During this period he was acknowledged as a budding talent and received considerable recognition from the art community, including a top award in a national arts competition sponsored by the UK Sunday Times. Following his studies, Tony spent ten years as a commercial artist in London, in a period when London was recognized as the leader in graphic arts for advertising. After a successful carrer in advertising and business management, Tony returned to his artistic roots and can now be described as a “reborn” artist . His more recent works using a combination of brush and knife, cover a variety of themes from Europe and Africa and reflect a fascination with the drama of colour and light, producing works which have a strong physical presence. |
